Facebook blog: Entering
In a world of ‘netizens’, friends and relatives particularly the new generation youngsters watched me with little smile on their face. The reason was simple: my prowess with the internet world was very limited. Behind me they used to talk about some fancy jargons: surfing, chatting, café, upload, download, browse, goggling, the new words were so many that I have to carry a pocket dictionary always, except during my morning chores. And particularly my niece started to talk in this line, with a special pleasure to watch me flipping the dictionary pages. And much to my dismay, some of the words are yet to be printed into that dictionary. May be if I get a new edition I will get some help in this quarter. Recently a new word popped up in their conversation: facebook blog.
I am aware of face and the other book, but what in this world is this facebook blog? Something related to Internet, that I was able to fathom from their usage of the word in connection with other words. To add fuel to my predicament, my company, in an effort to go eco-friendly and to adapt to the new technologies, informed that they are resorting to e-reporting. They called all the field personnel to Regional Office and a boy in his early twenties wearing a jeans and T-shirt were introduced to us a technical expert who will teach us the e-reporting.
The next three days was full of clicks, clicks and clicks and the end of that I was fairly able to submit my reports ‘online’ to head office. After all that was not too difficult. During the lunchtime I used to talk to this boy about my e-illiteracy and the conspiracy like code words, heard among my friends. He told me it is as easy as learning any language and by the end of the training I was proud owner of three e-mail id’s. The big secret of facebook blog was also unveiled to me by him.
Back home armed with this knowledge, I faced the lot with my newly acquired knowledge in internet related topics. It was nice to see their reaction to this. One by one I acquired more skills in sending mails, uploading, downloading browsing and attaching, thanks to my job, because some of the skills were required in the new way I reported to office.
Then I decided that it is time for me to get into this facebook blog. ‘Browsing’ about the subject I got into the website and created ‘profile’ and got my new identity. I have joined the FACEBOOK. For the picture I have uploaded my passport photo in my formal dress. By the evening I had seven messages in my “wall”. While six of them were add friend requests, my niece still want to pull my leg, posted this message “Uncle, change your photo in the facebook , you are looking very serious”. It is okay; at least I am in FACEBOOK BLOG NOW.
